The president of the Specific Chapter “Outlook for ITs and Communications” of the World Congress and Exhibition: "ENGINEERING 2010-ARGENTINA", speaks about the meaning of his participation in this event and anticipates the importance of the topics to be dealt with in the chapter he presides.
 
Question: What does it mean to you, at a professional as much as a personal level, to be the president of one of the specific chapter of ENGINEERING 2010-ARGENTINA?
Luis Perazo: One word that answers your question is Pride. Pride for having been chosen among so many colleagues to preside the organization of that Chapter, for their trusting my capacity to gather the group of professionals who can contribute ideas to allow us reach useful conclusions, our real objective.  
The second word that defines my answer is Responsibility. Knowing that great results are expected and that I must not disappoint those who have trusted me.

Q: What issue will the Chapter on ITCs revolve around in 2010?  What is the most relevant topic of ITCs at the moment? And why?
LP: The general heading of the congress is: "Outlook for ITs and Communication Technologies” and it revolves around three topics:
1. - ITCs and Society.
2. - Influence of the technological development on ITCs.
3. - Safety in ITCs

The topics are so specific and broad that it is impossible to choose one as the most relevant one.

In “ITCs and society” the proposal is to analyze the new sociability model that is characterized, as clearly explained by Manuel Castells, by the net individualism and the influence of these technologies at work, in business, in education and entertainment. We will search for a change perspective, analyzing its dangers and positive thrust.  

In “Influence of the technological development on ITCs”, in turn, we suggest to analyze the current state of technological development which comprises aspects of IT, telecommunications and media. We will try to research, in a near future, that universe that evolves exponentially and which is based on the most advanced developments of the most varied technological areas.

Finally, in “Safety in ITCs”, the technologies that we analyze act upon the information and their growth is exponential. For that reason, today more than ever, information is one of the most important assets for companies and people. Currently, the group of available technological resources makes information easy and quick to share, and this generates important benefits. Currently one of the challenges and objectives of this new discipline “Safety in ITCs” is to ensure that those resources and information are accessed by credited people within the authorized boundaries. We will intend to acknowledge how serious the crimes and facts that affect this safety are and therefore try to identify solutions to them.
 
Q: Where does our country stand in terms of ITCs?
LP: In this stage of the worldwide relationship, our country is completely integrated to the technological changes and follows the lead of the great developments. From our viewpoint, the gap that concerns us most is not the technological one but the social one. Technology is struggling to solve the most urgent issues and it can be very useful to solve failures in education, health and security, just to mention the core issues our citizens are mostly concerned about. The changes in the world economy, which are country is also affected by, will redefine many of the technological application concepts and their influence on society. We have to be on the alert and not only learn from worldwide experiences, but also find our own solutions.
