In an article, recently published in EcoPortal, Cristian Frers, an Environmental Management Technician, puts forward that one of the possible solutions to the large amounts of waste materials produced by human activity are landfills. “A landfill is a disposal method by which wastes are confined to as small an area as possible, covered with layers of soil and compacted daily to significantly reduce their volume”, Frers explained.
The recently created High-Level Panel on Global Sustainability brings together leading global policymakers, private sector and civil society experts in order to formulate a new blueprint for sustainable growth and low-carbon prosperity. It will issue its final report by the end of 2011.
