When the idea of organizing ENGINEERING 2010 – ARGENTINA came up, five years ago now, we began a search for support, for inspiration, for a fighting spirit and, mainly, a search for a perspective based on the common good.

We did it convinced of the fact that society as a whole is waiting for the commitment and willingness of engineering, together with productive sectors, to contribute to the fight for a sustainable world, with increasingly better living conditions worldwide. Engineering should plan, design and build a livable world for us, for our future generations and for the biosystem, seriously threatened by a development that can and will be sustainable only if measures which are not only important but also urgent are taken.

It is also essential that this attitude and willingness of engineering is expressed by the public and private sectors.

I said that we began a search for support and, in many cases, we got it. I do not quite like to thank people individually because it necessarily implies the possibility of unfair omissions.    

I will however make an exception since the Argentine engineering wanted to have the opportunity of showing itself to the world and ENGINEERING 2010 – ARGENTINA is undoubtedly the right occasion.

Participants of our Congress will receive a copy of the book “ARGENTINE ENGINEERING – Works, Ideas and Protagonists”, which has been carefully edited and published, with dedication and true intellectual honesty.

I therefore express my gratitude to the Professional Association of Civil Engineers (CPIC), which afforded the costs of producing and editing this valuable publication.
