The event that will join engineers from all over the World in Argentina is near and, therefore, it is necessary to reaffirm the objectives proposed by the World Federation of Engineering Organizations when it decided to support it.

I am speaking of the need of developing engineering policies which are aimed at a true Sustainable Development and at the service of humanity as a whole.  

In her recent visit to Argentina, WFEO President María Jesús Prieto Lafargue pointed out the need of closing the event with recommendations for the governments to solve the topics that hinder the accomplishment of the established goals.  

To this aim, an agreement with the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) is being analyzed so that engineering organizations be consulted as regards these topics.

A world of six thousand five hundred millions inhabitants, with a thousand millions suffering from hunger and malnutrition, makes it unnecessary to explain the need of implementing the aforementioned policies.   

To carry out this objective, engineers should participate.

We expect the participation of colleagues with experience so that they can transmit their knowledge and of young people so that they, with their energy, enthusiasm and strength, do not let older people make mistakes that, in older times and in another world, enabled us to accomplish task successfully.  

With this objective in mind, an agreement with the National Ministry of Education has been signed to support the participation of up to four thousand engineering advanced students in the Congress next October.

Moreover, the transmission of ENGINEERING 2010 – ARGENTINA via Internet is under implementation so as to have the widest possible participation.   

Let us go on. When the goal is important, obstacles become small.
