AGREEMENT WITH TLAXCALA

The XV Anniversary of the Council of Accreditation of Engineering Education (CACEI) was celebrated in the city of Atlihuetzia (Tlaxcala) in Mexico. On this occasion, the II Latin American Meeting on Accreditation and the IV CACEI Convention were held between March 15 and 20. The Argentine representatives who attended this event were Daniel Morano (SPU-ME), Luis María Fernández (CONEAU) and Luis Vaca Arenaza (CAI). They spoke about engineering accreditation systems and about the World Congress and Exhibition ENGINEERING 2010 – ARGENTINA.
As a result of the discussions, the participating countries signed the Tlaxcala Declaration, stating the advance in the implementation of national and regional accreditation systems, acknowledging that these processes improve education quality and that these national and regional efforts converge in a system of mutual recognition in Latin America. They consider that this will enable students’ mobility and, eventually, by means of agreements, professional mobility and that activities in the fields of engineering and technology are key factors for sustainable development. Participants committed themselves to work together to determine a structure that protects diversity and the pertinence of engineers’ education, encouraging and strengthening accreditation processes of engineering programs of the countries of the region. A proposal will be presented in the VIII World Education Congress to be held in Buenos Aires, next October 2010, within the framework of the World Congress and Exhibition ENGINEERING 2010 - ARGENTINA.
