MEETING OF UPADI INTERNATIONAL BOARD IN PUERTO RICO
The meeting of the International Board of the Pan-American Union of Engineers’ Associations (acronym in Spanish, UPADI) was held in San Juan, Puerto Rico, during the last week of September.
With the attendance of 21 out of the 28 member countries, the participants were Costa Rica, Cuba, Argentina, Bolivia, Canada, Brazil, Ecuador, El Salvador, United States, Paraguay, Honduras, Panama, Venezuela, Colombia, Mexico, Nicaragua, Belize, Dominican Republic, Spain (as observer), Guatemala and Puerto Rico.
The members of the Argentine delegation were Engineer Luis Di Benedetto, President of the Argentine Center of Engineers, Engineer Luis Perazo, President of the Chapter “Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) of ENGINEERING 2010-ARGENTINA and recently appointed president of the Telecommunication Committee of UPADI, Engineer Alfredo Arias, UADI Secretary, Engineer Miguel Angel Yadarola, President of the National Advisory Council (NAC) of ENGINEERING 2010- ARGENTINA and of the Pan-American Academy of Engineering, and Engineer Francisco Bobadilla, NAC member.
The event included meetings of technical committees and other meetings with the participation of important authorities of water, sewage and energy companies, university professors and presidents of several chambers and associations and World Bank officers. Presentations offered some initiatives and the description of the current state of the development processes of the represented countries. The conclusions of this event were summarized in a document called “Puerto Rico Declaration" that establishes the need of improving the cooperation among Pan-American countries.
The State Department, the Municipality of San Juan and the Chamber of Commerce of Puerto Rico received and gave a reception to the delegations in their own main offices.
